Sunday, August 20, 10am-4pm
This hands-on workshop will combine the techniques of pressure printing and overprinting with wood type to create beautifully layered prints.
For the first part of class we will create our backgrounds by exploring techniques of pressure printing. We’ll use a variety of items, such as collaged cut outs or other flat materials—such as leaves, lace and string—to create impressions in the paper. In the afternoon everyone will use wood type to set their own favorite quote/saying, and print them on the pressure-printed backgrounds!
Level: Beginner – no experience necessary
Registration closes August 12, 2023 and includes all necessary materials for class.
Registration includes a $12 materials fee to cover consumable materials such as ink and paper. Students may also wish to bring the following optional items:
Elisabeth Boerwinkel is a printmaker and illustrator from the Netherlands, currently living and working in Washington, D.C. She was a Keyholder Resident for Fall/Winter 2021 before joining as a Letterpress Associate at Pyramid Atlantic. Pulling her first prints in 2015 she fell in love with copperplate etching straight away. Later she wandered into a letterpress studio in Amsterdam and got obsessed with wood, metal, and heavy machinery. You can find her in the letterpress studio smelling the ink.
