About this Workshop:
Looking to reimagine old print editions, print “rejects,” or prints on fabric? Want to clean out that flat file and turn old pieces into brand new transformations? Take collage to a new level by working with cradled boards, iron-on adhesives, printed fabric and prints on paper and more. We’ll explore using the Japanese hole punch and various cutting techniques using an X-acto knife to bring new life to past work.
Level: Intermediate – Experience with mixed media, as well as fundamental design and drawing skill is recommended but not required.
Registration closes August 4, 2023 to allow time for students to gather/purchase their materials. With your registration confirmation you’ll receive the full materials list (with helpful resource/shopping links) to purchase any needed items, the zoom invitation for your class, as well as access to a quick guide on downloading and using the Zoom app if you’re new to the application.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:
At registration, students will receive the full materials list (with any helpful resource links) to purchase supplies. The list includes:
- Pencil
- Ruler or straight edge
- One X-acto knife with #11 blades, or Olfa knife
- Scissors
- Blue Painters Tape
- Mix of thick and thin papers, fabrics, printed paper, colored paper, or old prints to use for mixed media purposes. Please select things you wouldn’t mind cutting up or repurposing.
- 1-2 yds of fusible interfacing (heat-activated, not the sew-in variety)
- 2 wooden, unprimed, flat cradle boards, 10” x 10” or smaller (Blick Art Supply or Artist & Craftsman)
- 1 small container of water-based acrylic varnish
- 1-2” wide sponge brush
- (Recommended) Cutting mat or cutting surface
- (Recommended) Japanese hole punch, Economical version or Professional Grade
- (Optional): PVA glue
- (Optional): Acrylic Paint, gouache, or chalky look paint. Color of your choice
- (Optional): Acrylic or watercolor brushes
- (Optional): Other wet or dry media
- (Optional): Tracing Paper and a sheet of Bristol for making patterns
- (Optional): Stamps and ink pads
- (Optional): Needle and embroidery thread
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Melissa Ezelle earned her MFA from Ohio University, and her BFA from Murray State University with a concentration in Printmaking. Her work focuses on personal family history, using handmade printmaking methods, textiles, and mixed media. From 2013-2022, she was a practicing studio artist at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. She continues to teach online workshops at Pyramid and at the Morgan Conservatory for Papermaking. Melissa has taught for Montgomery College on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus and at Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC. She currently resides in Asheville, North Carolina, where she is pursuing a 2-year Associate’s program in Professional Crafts/Textiles.
