About this Workshop:
Ready to move beyond a one-color screenprint? In this silkscreen workshop, you will learn to design and register multi-layer prints. You will use overlapping layers to expand the color range of a print and continue to explore screenprint’s creative possibilities.
Level: Intermediate—Introduction to Screenprinting on Paper or similar screenprinting experience (6 hours) is required.
Registration extended to April 5, 2024. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:
Registration includes a $60 materials fee to cover consumable materials, including ink, tape, newsprint, emulsion and cleaners. It also covers the purchase of a new screen for you to take home to continue experimenting with multi-color layerings. In addition, students are requested to bring the following items:
- Personal silkscreen – this second screen is in addition to the one included with material fees (you’ll need a total of two for class). If you don’t have a second screen, please contact us – Pyramid can loan one for class use or secure an additional new screen for you for $35.
- Personal apron (we’ll have extras) or wear clothes that can get a bit inky
- Pencil and paper (if you want to take notes)
- High contrast, black and white images to work with (more specific details will be provided by the instructor)
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Anne C. Smith is an artist based in Washington, DC. Working primarily in drawing and silkscreen printmaking, her observations of architecture and wide-open, vast spaces inform her investigation into the relationship between landscape, imagination and belonging. Smith studied silkscreen printmaking with Master Printmaker Lou Stovall while working as his studio assistant. She has also served as master printmaker on a silkscreened book edition at George Mason University’s Navigation Press and collaborated with Ben Ashworth (Finding A Line) on a large wheatpasted mural. She has taught drawing at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College. She is currently serving as a Screenprint Studio Associate at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, MD. Learn more about her work at www.annecsmith.com.
