View our current in-studio Health and Safety and Cancellation Policies >>

About this Workshop:

In this workshop, students will learn how to make the deceptively simple drum leaf binding. This binding is made entirely using adhesives, allowing full spread images without sewing through the pages. This workshop would be perfect for printmakers or paper artists who wish to turn existing works on heavy-duty paper into a finished book.

Level: Intermediate – Introduction to Bookmaking, or equivalent experience (6 hours), is recommended but not required.

Registration closes April 4, 2024. Material fees are included with your registration, though a list of additional optional items to consider bringing will be sent with your confirmation.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:

Registration includes a $24 materials fee to cover all materials including paper, cover stock, decorative paper, adhesive, and newsprint. Optional materials that students may wish to bring include:

  • Personal apron
  • A notebook or sketchbook for taking notes
  • Any personal tools you prefer to use (Pyramid will have extras handy though): Scissors, Xacto knife, Cutting mat, Glue brush, Bonefolder, and Ruler (preferably metal)

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Book artist Linda Rollins is passionate about all aspects of the book arts and enjoys sharing her extensive knowledge of binding and repair techniques to students of all levels. She has been a book conservator since the mid-1990s, and was proprietor of Capella Book Arts.

“Drum leaf binding has a high reward to effort ratio as a way of informally presenting photographs. Excellent class.”
