More than 200 Route 1 artists will host open studio tours at the same time in early May.
Organized each year by the Gateway Community Development Corp., the Gateway Open Studios Tour will showcase local artists in their studios in the towns of Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood and Hyattsville.
Many of the artists do not typically have their studios open, so the tour is a great chance to peek behind the scenes at how they make their work.
Participating arts groups include Joe’s Movement Emporium and Red Dirt Studio in Mount Rainier, Portico Gallery in Brentwood, Material Things in North Brentwood and Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, while businesses such as Nest Proper, Maryland Meadworks, Pennyroyal Station and the Gateway Farmer’s Market are also involved.
Free shuttles will transport visitors along the two-mile stretch of Route 1, since the self-guided tours involve a lot of walking. All day parking will be available at the garage for the Hyattsville Judicial Center at 5000 Rhode Island Ave.
You can find a map of participating groups here.
