An Online Workshop!

Thursday, June 16, 7-9pm ET via Zoom

About this Workshop:

Interested in handmade books but unsure where to start? In this workshop, you will learn some introductory book binding skills and create your very own Buttonhole Paper Book using cardstock paper, some waxed thread, and a sewing needle. These journals require no adhesive and make the perfect gift for a loved one or yourself! Registration includes a materials kit.

Level: Beginner

Registration closes June 2, 2022 for kit shipping and June 7, 2022 for kit pick-up. With your registration you’ll receive a list (with helpful links) to gather/purchase the supplemental tools you’ll need for class, any helpful handouts about the process, as well as a quick 1-page “how-to” on downloading and using the Zoom video app.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Anne Barnes is an artist and graphic designer living in Washington, DC. She graduated in June 2020 with an MFA in Visual Arts and worked for many years as a book and cover designer in publishing. Her mixed media work—which includes the use of books as medium and the production of artist’s books—combines a high-keyed color palette, expressive gesture, and symbolic mark-making. The result is the abstracted visualizations of her memories, emotions, and varied perspectives that merge to become metaphors for exploration into themes of human nature, popular culture, feminism, and motherhood. Learn more about her work at www.annebarnesstudio.com and on Instagram @annebarnes_studio.
