About this Workshop:
Perfect for painters and printmakers alike, this using watercolor paint in monotype printmaking offers a fresh way to explore color and mark-making in a one-of-a-kind print. This workshop explores the delicate and fluid possibilities of monotype printmaking using watercolour paints. Participants will paint directly onto a processed plexiglass plate, allowing the pigments to dry before transferring the image to dampened paper through the press. This process captures the subtle textures and brushwork of watercolour while introducing unique surprises of printmaking.
Students will experiment with layering, opacity, and reactivating dried pigment.
Level: Beginner – no previous experience necessary
Registration closes June 20, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students may/will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:
Registration includes a $22 materials fee to cover consumable materials provided in class, including watercolor paints and brushes, printmaking paper, and plexiglass plates. Students will need to supply additional materials of their own, including:
- (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras) and/or wear clothes that can get messy
- (optional) Notebook or sketchbook if you’d like to take notes
- (optional) Any personal watercolor paints or brushes you’d prefer to use over the class set. Both simple pan sets, as well as tubed watercolors, will work.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Gloria Ann Shows is a Filipino-American artist specializing in printmaking, fiber art, and book art. Her work has been featured in museums and galleries nationwide, including the Pizzuti Collection of the Columbus Museum of Art (OH), Turner Center for the Arts (GA), Davis Fine Arts Gallery (WV), the University of North Florida’s Gallery of Art, and Ruddell Gallery at Black Hills State University (SD). She has received grants from the Ohio Arts Council, The Ohio State University, and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, and her awards include the Best in Traditional Techniques Award from the Oklahoma Printmaking Network and the Curator’s Choice Award at the Collect:Connect Exhibition. Shows is a member of Southern Graphics Council International and Mid America Print Council.
