An Online Workshop!

Wednesday, June 15, 7pm-9pm ET via Zoom.

About this Workshop:

Suminagashi-style paper marbling is the centuries-old process of painting on water. Ink is floated on the water’s surface and swirled around using breath and brushes. Paper is set on top of the water’s surface, resulting in swirling patterns and organic designs. In this Zoom+Make, you learn about methods and materials and explore ways to create a variety of designs. The paper marbling process is perfect for all makers and learners, especially those just beginning to explore creative practices.

Level: Beginner

Registration closes June 6, 2022 to allow time for students to gather/purchase their materials. With your registration you’ll receive the full materials list (with helpful links) to purchase your items, any helpful handouts about the process, as well as a quick 1-page “how-to” on downloading and using the Zoom video app.

Sample images of the technique by Kelly Laughlin.

Please Note: The online session will be recorded for Pyramid Atlantic’s private use to better optimize our programming and share as examples for funders. You may mute your microphone or turn off your camera if you do not wish to be recorded. Access to the recording(s) will be made available to all participants for a limited time.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Selene LaMarca is a graphic designer and fine artist working in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. She creates experimental photographic work, often through by-passing the standard camera to work directly with light sensitive materials. LaMarca earned her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She currently teaches courses in graphic design, darkroom and digital photography. Learn more about her work at selenelamarca.com.

“Having a person there to troubleshoot the challenges is what makes it so much more useful than a YouTube video. And Selene was clearly well experienced with the technique.”
