About this Workshop:
In this 2-day workshop, students will learn how to mix and print with their own handmade inks using natural earth pigments. During the first class, we will discuss the process of mixing our own inks using water soluble and oil-based binders, in addition to observing a demonstration on how to transfer and carve a linoleum block. In the second session, students will mix their own inks using pre-ground earth pigment powder with water-soluble or oil-based binders. This handmade ink will then be used to print the linoleum blocks carved during the previous session to produce a stack of unique prints. A demonstration on how to process your own foraged minerals/pigments will also be covered to broaden students’ ability to harness the natural colors around them.
Level: Intermediate – Introduction to Relief Printmaking (linoleum or wood) or similar experience (6 hours) with carving techniques is recommended but not required.
Registration extended to October 31, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students may/will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.
