Saturday, February 15, 10:30am-2:30pm, In-Studio and Saturday, February 22, 10:30am-1:30pm ET, via Zoom
This workshop will give students a gentle introduction to creative coding and computational design that is grounded in the printmaking process.
It will introduce students to the basic principles of computational design in two parts. In Part 1, students will re-imagine the screen-print studio as a computer and will design and print a 3-color variable edition following a system of rules. In Part 2, students will join a Zoom call to translate that rules system into code and recreate their screen-printed designs on the digital screen.
Programming can be intimidating! But we will slowly ease into the code we need to make our images. Like in learning a new language, no one will be expected to be fluent on their first day. This workshop seeks to lower the barrier a little bit to using code in artmaking.
Level: Intermediate—Introduction to Screenprinting (Fabric or Paper) or similar experience with screenprinting basics (6 hrs) is required.
Registration closes February 8, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. With your registration confirmation you’ll receive a list of additional items to gather/purchase for class, your Zoom invitation link for Day 2 of class, as well as access to a quick guide on downloading and using the Zoom app.
PLEASE NOTE: All virtual workshop sessions will be recorded for Pyramid Atlantic’s private use to better optimize our programming and share as examples for funders. You may mute your microphone or turn off your camera if you do not wish to be recorded. Participants will have access to the recording for a limited time after class.
Registration includes a $32 materials fee to cover consumable materials provided in class, including mylar, drawing tools, emulsion, ink, and access to community screens for class use. Students will need to supply additional materials of their own, including:
