Houston-based artist Carlos Hernandez shares screenprints, collages, and sketchbooks in MIXED UP, CUT UP. Hernandez’s work reproduces familiar visual images, and arranges/collages them into new, layered works often with added hand-drawn elements. The results are high-voltage graphic works with retro grit.
Hernandez’s art has been showcased through a variety of gallery shows and projects that include the music industry, restaurant and retail design, and corporate work. He is a founding partner of Burning Bones Press, a member of the legendary Outlaw Printmakers, and has served as an instructor of Screen Printing at Rice University.
His career highlights include serving as the 2019 Artist-In-Residence at the renowned Hatch Show Print; becoming a part of the print collection at the Smithsonian Institution and the Library of Congress; being tapped as the official commemorative poster artist for the Austin City Limits Music Festival; and his work with childhood idol and hot rod legend, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth.
