About this Workshop:

Turn the old into something new by letterpress printing on discarded sheet music, book pages, maps, and more to create new and unique prints to keep or share with friends. You’ll set your words and/or phrases in wood type and print using the Vandercook presses.

Level: Beginner – no experience necessary

Registration closes June 11, 2024 and all materials are provided.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:

Registration includes all materials—just come ready to have fun! In addition, you may want to bring the following optional items for class:

  • Personal apron (we’ll have extras) or wear clothes that can get inky
  • Pencil and notepad for taking notes
  • Any personal items you’d like to try printing on—old prints/artwork, book pages, vintage magazines—anything that you might have thrown out and want to upcycle into art.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Sara Blumberg loves creating designs through all aspects of letterpress printing. She fell in love with the art after taking an introductory printing class at Pyramid two years ago. During the day Sara works as a design and content strategist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. focusing on ocean missions. Most evenings you can find her making new designs or trying new color combinations in the studio. Before letterpress, Sara worked as a journalist in Baltimore. Learn more about her work by following her in instagram at @juniperletterpress.
