About this Workshop:
Join us for a fun evening playing with pulp! You’ll learn the basic techniques needed to cast paper pulp to create lightweight relief sculptures and experiment with both sheet casting and pouring methods. Handmade and everyday objects will be used as molds. Pigments and inclusions will be incorporated to enhance the texture of our paper sculptures. This is a great introduction to sculptural papermaking for anyone interested in pushing pulp into the third dimension!
Level: Beginner – no experience necessary
Registration closes September 10, 2025 and all materials are provided.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:
Registration includes all materials—just come ready to have fun! In addition, you may want to bring the following items for class:
- (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras)—waterproof is best, but a heavy kitchen apron will do
- (optional) Shoes with good traction—waterproof is best as the studio floor will get wet
- (optional) Pen and notebook for taking any notes
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
David Joo is a papermaker and artist focused in finding new expression in paper’s tactile and sensuous details. His work stems from paying close attention to both how paper is made and put to use in art and in the broader culture, ranging from the material foundations of visual culture to paper’s role in transmitting information. His designs and sculptural paper works have been shown in galleries, resorts, and virtual spaces after his practice first emerged amid the pandemic.
