About this Workshop:

In this workshop, we’ll explore a painterly screenprinting method using drawing fluid and screen filler to create designs by hand. This easily accessible technique allows for a quick and direct approach to creating a printable image that is relatively inexpensive, and this technique is something you can continue exploring at home without needing a darkroom or photo emulsion. The imagery is painted directly on the screen, then the screen is coated with screen filler and dried, and then the original image is washed out, creating a stencil to run ink through. 

Level: Beginner – no experience necessary

Registration includes all materials—just come ready to have fun! In addition, you may want to bring the following items for class:

  • (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras in class) or wear clothes that can get inky
  • (optional) A notebook if you want to take notes

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Jeanette M. Bolden is a visual artist and printmaker based in Mount Rainier, Maryland. As a student, Bolden received The Washington Print Club’s 2021 Young Printer Award and was featured in the fall 2021 issue of On Paper: Journal of The Washington Print Club. In the summer of 2022, Bolden interned at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center and co-taught the Hispanic Heritage Month Internship Program. Toward the end of her academic program at the University of Maryland, she participated in the Honor Thesis and Senior Exhibition. Having graduated with a B.A. in studio arts as an honor student,she participated in the Exercises for Emerging Artists program by Transformer Gallery in 2023.
