About this Workshop:

Slip knot binding is an uncomplicated and decorative way to weave pages of an artist book together with minimal tools or materials, as well as a versatile binding for various trim sizes. In this class we will spend time exploring ways to apply abstracted marks to paper that will become the visual content of the book structure, and then weave the pages together with beaded embellishments.

Level: Beginner – no experience necessary

Registration closes October 9, 2024 and all materials are provided.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:

Registration includes all materials—just come ready to have fun! In addition, you may want to bring the following optional items for class:

  • Personal apron (we’ll have extras) or wear clothes that can get messy
  • Notepad/Sketchbook and pencil to sketch and take any notes

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Anne Barnes is an artist and graphic designer living in Washington, DC. She graduated in June 2020 with an MFA in Visual Arts and worked for many years as a book and cover designer in publishing. Her mixed media work—which includes the use of books as medium and the production of artist’s books—combines a high-keyed color palette, expressive gesture, and symbolic mark-making. The result is the abstracted visualizations of her memories, emotions, and varied perspectives that merge to become metaphors for exploration into themes of human nature, popular culture, feminism, and motherhood. Learn more about her work at www.annebarnesstudio.com and on Instagram @annebarnes_studio.
