About this Workshop:

Learn the basics of letterpress printing with antique lead type on a Chandler & Price Pilot tabletop platen press. Students will learn how to set lead type, operate the tabletop press, troubleshoot, clean, and maintain the press—the perfect foundation for anyone interested in having their own small press at home. Each participant will handset a few lines of text of their own choosing and print a small edition (10-15 prints).

Level: Beginner – no previous experience necessary

Registration closes July 15, 2022 Material fees are included with your registration.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:

Registration includes a $7 materials fee to cover consumable materials. Student may also wish to bring the following optional items:

  • Personal apron (or substitute clothes that can get inky)
  • Pen and paper for taking notes
  • A few ideas for a short phrase/saying you’d like to typeset and print during class

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Lauren Emeritz loves letters but not spelling. When she found out graphic design existed she signed right up! After loving that for a while, she wanted to get off the computer and get her hands dirty. Letterpress combines all her favorite things: type (especially wood type), paper, ink, creativity / problem-solving and making things by hand. You can find her on the interweb at: abstractorange.com

“Loved it. Having plenty of time to set type and learn to use the [press] was great. It was nice that it was a very small group so we got plenty of individual attention and weren’t competing for resources.”
