Fabric is a fantastic and flexible substrate to print onto and can be translated into a great range of applications. This hands-on introductory class will provide instruction on the screenprinting process, specifically for fabric. You will learn about sourcing printing equipment and materials, preparing your personal artwork for screen-printing, various artistic printing methods, heat setting a printed image, and fabric care.
Note: In this workshop, the process of coating, exposing, and developing the students’ screens will be done by the instructor ahead of the workshop and then either mailed or picked-up by students for Day 1. To this end, the registration time period will end two weeks before class for shipping orders and 10 days before class for pick-up orders. This is to allow adequate time for the instructor to do this process and get the screen in students’ hands. Upon registration, students will be given guidelines on how to source and create images. In addition, students will be sent a video that covers the process the instructor did of coating the screen with emulsion, exposing, and developing.
Level: Beginner
Registration for those requiring screen shipment closes May 19, 2022; Registration for those picking-up screens closes May 26, 2022. This is to allow time for coating/exposing screens for pick-up or shipment and for students to purchase their additional materials. With your registration confirmation you’ll receive the full materials list (with helpful links) to purchase your items, any initial handouts about the process, as well as a quick 1-page “how-to” guide to using the Zoom video app.
Please Note: The online session will be recorded for Pyramid Atlantic’s private use to better optimize our programming and share as examples for funders. You may mute your microphone or turn off your camera if you do not wish to be recorded. Access to the recording(s) will be made available to all participants for a limited time.
Registration includes a materials fee to cover the purchase of a new silkscreen which will be safely handled and processed either for pick-up ($50) or shipping ($77)—please select the option that best suits your needs. Students will also need to supply additional materials of their own, including:
