About this Workshop:

Are you interested in taking screenprinting on fabric to the next level? In this workshop, you will learn how to register and print multiple colors, how to mix transparent base into ink to create overlays of color, and how to ‘unhinge’ the screen and print large. You will leave with 2 yards of bespoke printed fabric, a screen of your own, and the skills to do it again.

Level: Intermediate—Introduction to Screenprinting on Fabric (or Paper) or similar screenprinting experience (6 hours) is required.

Registration closes January 31, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:

Registration includes a $60 materials fee to cover consumable materials, including ink, tape, newsprint, emulsion and cleaners. It also covers the purchase of a new screen for you to take home to continue experimenting with multi-color layerings. Students will also need to supply additional materials of their own, including:

  • Personal silkscreen – this second screen is in addition to the one included with material fees (you’ll need a total of two for class). If you don’t have a second screen, please contact us – Pyramid can loan one for class use or you can purchase an additional new screen from us for $30.
  • (optional) Personal apron – or wear clothes that can get inky (we’ll have extra aprons handy)
  • (optional) Notebook or sketchbook for taking notes
  • Fabric – tea towels, t-shirts, any flat fabric works well (should be clean and ironed before class)
  • Image(s) to work with – more guidance will be provided in the confirmation email

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Eliza Clifford is an arts educator, printmaker, and multidisciplinary artist from Maryland. Her work explores ideas of womanhood, mental health, gender, and how identities are constructed (and destructed) in modern day society. As a multidisciplinary artist, she experiments in a variety of mediums, including printmaking, book arts, design, alternative photography, natural dyeing, and quilting/sewing. Clifford has worked and taught at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, the Women’s Studio Workshop, the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, Arts on the Block, and the Metropolitan Center for Visual Art (VisArts). She has been an artist in residence at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, the Remarque Print Workshop, and the Penland School of Craft. Clifford has been featured in exhibitions at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, the Washington Printmakers Gallery, the Baltimore Fine Print Fair, the Morgan Conservatory, the Torpedo Factory Art Center, and Kent State University.
