So you’ve started folding paper and creating 3D shapes—great! But what happens when things go wrong? Join us for a short form workshop to dive a bit deeper into folded paper structures … and how to think your way around pesky construction problems.
We will explore various methods of construction and how to connect smaller pieces to create larger compositions. We will also look at various methods of ensuring the longevity of your paper sculpture, such as strengthening your paper through various lamination techniques, paper mache, and more. And yes—bring in a project you are currently working on, or an idea you have for a project for extra help in troubleshooting issues!
Level: Intermediate – Folding Techniques in Handmade Paper, or previous experience with creating folded paper structures, is recommended.

Since childhood, Tatiana Nelson-Joseph has been interested in art. She studied Business at GWU, but a chance year off to attend FIT exposed to her hand making patterns for handbags and shoes. Out of this experience she started creating sculpture primarily out of paper, in which she is primarily self-taught. She received her MFA in Sculpture from Howard University and has taught art in Middle School, High School and at the College level.
Inspired by geometry and nature, Tatiana is motivated to explore forms in folded paper as well as in other materials. Her artistic style is informed by a modern geometric aesthetic and undulating natural forms. You can find more of her work online: @liquidspades.art, www.saatchiart.com/tatiana.nelsonjoseph.
