About this Workshop:
Electroetching is a process of etching metal that involves a salt solution, or electrolyte, an anode, and a cathode. In printmaking, this offers an excellent alternative to traditional acid etching for those concerned with chemical safety. In this 3-day workshop, students will learn how to prepare, etch and print a plate from start to finish in an electrolytic bath. We will discuss the differences between acid etching and electroetching, and will experiment with solvent-free grounds and resists for low-toxicity printmaking. Students will come away with a plate, a small edition of prints, and the knowledge to set up their own electroetching tanks at home.
Level: Beginner – previous experience with etching (Introduction to Etching or similar) is helpful, but not required.
Registration closes July 25, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students may/will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:
Registration includes a $32 materials fee to cover consumable materials provided in class, including a copper plate, newsprint, tarlatan, and materials for the electrolyte bath. Students will need to supply additional materials of their own, including:
- 2 sheets Rives BFK or other printmaking paper
- (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras) and/or wear clothes that can get inky
- (optional) Notebook or sketchpad to take notes
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Nicole Parker is a fine artist specializing in representational oil painting and intaglio printmaking. She received her BFA and Certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the fine arts in 2018. She is greatly enriched and inspired by sensory sources like music, film, storytelling and food. She joined Pyramid as a keyholder resident and was thrilled to stay on as an associate!
