About this Workshop:
Rooted in Renaissance tradition and famously used by Leonardo da Vinci and Albrecht Dürer, silverpoint is a luminous drawing medium celebrated for its precision and permanence. In this workshop, artist Jenny Walton introduces students to the beauty of linear mark-making through the delicate and disciplined practice of drawing with fine silver.
Students will learn how to prepare traditional silverpoint surfaces and explore methods for building form, tone, and texture entirely through line. Emphasis will be placed on controlled, layered mark-making techniques that develop depth and subtlety over time. The workshop covers a range of materials and tools used in both historical and contemporary silverpoint drawing.
Perfect for artists of all levels, this course offers a rare opportunity to connect with a time-honored medium and sharpen your eye through intentional line work.
Level: Beginner—Some experience with line and form (Part I and II of the series for example) is helpful, but not required. This short-form workshop is part of a series of foundational drawing classes that build on skill in succession, however they can be taken individually to inform your own skills wherever you’re at. There are no pre-requisites for any class in the series.
Registration extended through December 4, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration, though a list of additional items needed to be gathered/purchased will be sent with your confirmation.
