About this Workshop:

Have you ever been curious about how to make your own sheets of paper? Want to learn a new, unique printing process that you can do at home without a press? If so, Cyanotypes on Handmade Paper is the workshop just for you!

This two-day workshop combines the best of both worlds where students will learn how to make and work with pulp, form sheets, and then create beautiful blue cyanotype prints on their own freshly made sheets of paper. 

Level: Beginner—no previous experience necessary

Registration closes January 25, 2025. Material fees are included with your registration to cover the supplies provided in class. Students will need to gather/purchase additional materials for class (see the materials list below). This list will also be provided with the registration confirmation email.

CLASS MATERIALS LIST:

Registration includes a $30 materials fee to cover consumable materials provided in class, including pulp and cyanotype chemistry. Students will need to supply additional materials of their own, including:

  • (optional) Personal apron (we’ll have extras) – waterproof is recommended. You can also substitute a cooking apron
  • (recommended) Comfortable shoes with good tread (you will be on your feet most of the day and the studio floor will get wet)
  • (optional) Note paper and pen (for taking notes)
  • Gloves, especially if your hands are sensitive – your hands will be in almost constant contact with water during the day, both days
  • Objects to use for cyanotype imagery on Day 2, including (but not limited to): botanicals, lacey fabrics, small objects, photo negatives, etc.)

YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

Selene LaMarca is a graphic designer and fine artist working in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. She creates experimental photographic work, often through by-passing the standard camera to work directly with light sensitive materials. LaMarca earned her BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She currently teaches courses in graphic design, darkroom and digital photography.
