This workshop will explore the collagraph print—an accessible and versatile approach to printmaking. A favorite medium for both veteran and novice printmakers, this process uses everyday materials and simple collage techniques to make rich, textured prints.
We will glue a variety of textured items onto a mat board or similar surface, seal it, and apply inks to print it onto paper. Our workshop will discuss the materials and techniques that bring the greatest success, as well as the diverse types of compositions that can be created. Collagraphs can be easily combined with other monotype or mixed media processes. The collagraph plate itself is a wonderful thing—it can become its own artwork, can be printed later with a press, or used as a surface to make rubbings. Similarly, the prints can be reworked with a variety of mixed media. The possibilities are limitless!
Level: All levels welcome.
