Build on your introduction to bookmaking skills! In this intermediate bookmaking class, students will learn the process of binding a flat-back, closed-cover book. We’ll cover how to prepare and sew signatures, how to make a case with a hinged spine, and how to combine the two! In this class, we will also get the chance to utilize some of the bindery’s equipment, such as the guillotine, board shears, and nipping press. All materials are provided with the materials fee, but students are more than welcome to bring their own decorative papers and book cloth to personalize their books. Everyone in this workshop will walk away with an entirely handmade, hardcover blank book. (Note: Class was previously titled Flat-back, Closed Cover Books)
Level: Intermediate – Introduction to Bookmaking or similar experience (6 hours) with bookbinding techniques required.
Registration closes January 27, 2023. Material fees are included with your registration, though a list of additional items needed to be gathered/purchased will be sent with your confirmation.
